A busy week

It’s a big week in Forks and the final countdown for the Forks High School Class of 2026. The calendar is packed with scholarship night, baccalaureate, the traditional grad walk through the schools and around town, graduation itself, and of course, Safe Night celebrations.
On Saturday, I’ll have the privilege of helping send the graduates into their future by joining the school band in playing Pomp and Circumstance. The tune that says, “You made it!”
The song became associated with commencements after being played at a 1905 ceremony at Yale University honoring British composer Sir Edward Elgar, who was receiving an honorary doctorate. More than a century later, those familiar notes are still ushering nervous, excited graduates across stages around the world.
For the Class of 2026, the week will fly by. One minute, they’ll be walking the halls as students, and the next they’ll be walking across the stage as graduates, ready to see where life takes them next. An exciting time for the students, their families, and a community that has watched many of them grow up. Congratulations, Class of 2026—you’ve earned your moment.
