Harold Newton

NEWTON, Harold “Hal” passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2017, in Port Alberni at the age of 83

Predeceased by sons Victor and Christopher; brothers Glen and Norman.

Hal is survived by loving wife Cathie; children Skip (Lorri), Coleen (Gabe), Cathie, Cindy (Don), Deb (Jeff) and Ronda; as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Hal was born in the United States and moved to Canada in the mid 80’s where he started a shake and shingle mill at Toquart Bay shortly after which he met Cathie. He and Cathie got married in 1988 and the couple spent a great deal of time traveling. Six months in summer was spent in Canada and six months spent in Arizona where Cathie and Hal stayed and were part of the community entertainment committee. Hal loved to socialize and made sure that his clothing matched his colorful character.

A Celebration of Hal’s life will be held at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hal’s memory to the West Coast General Hospital Foundation 3949 Alberni Hwy, Port Alberni, BC., V9Y 4S1.

The family wishes to extend thanks to the nurses and caregivers of the WCGH for the care Hal received while in hospital. A special mention of thanks goes out to a very special angel, Carmen who went above and beyond to make Hal comfortable.
