A Look Back …This week in the Forks Forum

This week in 2000, someone was passing counterfeit $100 bills. FHS FCCLA had collected 1,700 pounds of food for the Forks Food Bank. There were concerns that the Forks Elks Lodge might close. Seven-year-old Shilo Hinchen had created an ornament at WOCA’s Art Fest at Forks Elementary School (photo).

Fifty years ago, the week the community Nativity scene had gone up in the Triangle Lot (photo). In the West End Crime Report, three pairs of caulk boots were stolen from a crew bus.

This week in 1968, a car vs. an Olson & Miller log truck accident, that looked bad, resulted in no injuries to truck driver Gene Coats and vehicle driver Clint Cross (photo). Three Forks students received certificates for being Outstanding Teenagers of America (photo).

This week in 1953, there was no update on Mary Clark’s missing collie. The Dewey Watters home at Shuwah had burned to the ground. The Leroy Johnsons had welcomed a baby girl, Rita, who weighed seven pounds and 5 and a quarter ounces. Lucky Logger 4-H club member Dudley Maxfield had demonstrated how to hang wallpaper at a recent meeting.

This week in 1939, more charges were filed in the Clallam County scandal. County Commissioner Levy was charged with forgery and misappropriation of funds. Hoh River residents were hearing what sounded like a lost child in the woods. Thinking it was a cougar, dogs were sent out but found no tracks …so what was it? Marion McGuin was the first woman to take flying instruction at the Callam County Airport in Port Angeles.
