Empower Yourself: Practical Tools for Living Alone

When you lose a loved one or are preparing to be alone, you will likely encounter certain practical, everyday problems. Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County (VHOCC) will offer a series of five workshops, two weeks apart, to offer support and practical advice to help with these new challenges.

The first is May 19. The topics include home and automobile maintenance, shopping and cooking for one, household finances, consumer protection and fraud prevention, and self-care.

Scheduled every other Wednesday from 2-3:30 p.m., the entire series is free to the public. Some workshops will be online using Zoom, and some will be in person. In-person meetings will be limited to a small group to respect current meeting guidelines. Whether you are interested in the entire series or just one or two workshops, you must register by calling VHOCC at 360-452-1511 or by emailing office@vhocc.org.

May 19 – Home & Auto Maintenance (via Zoom) – Michael Bucierka will provide information on what systems in your home need regular maintenance to avoid an emergency, and what to do in case of an emergency. He will suggest maintenance that can be performed by the homeowner and advice on when professional assistance is recommended. Mr. Bucierka brings to the workshop extensive experience as a former licensed general contractor, home inspector, and residential maintenance professional.

June 2 – Shopping and Cooking for One (in person in PA, class limited to 9)

June 16 – Household Finances (via Zoom)

June 30 – Consumer Protection and Fraud Protection (via Zoom)

July 14 – Self-Care (in person in PA, limited to 8 unless restrictions are further eased)
