Forks Elks Lodge #2524 used a $2500 Beacon Grant to purchase supplies for the Elementary School’s STEM and STEAM programs.

On Friday Oct 7, 2022 the supplies were presented to QVSD educator Dora Maxfield by ER Mike Leavitt.

These educational programs provide interdisciplinary instruction and skills that students use in school and later in their life and careers. STEAM requires that two or more standards are taught and assessed through each other consisting of science technology, engineering, math, and the arts.

Dora Maxfield’s students were given paper, pencil and 30 cups.

The math and engineering skills they have learned were used. The problem: they must have all cups connected, and use all 30 cups. If their pyramid falls, they must redesign and build again. The tallest successful pyramid was 69 inches tall.
