A Look Back … This week in the Forks Forum

This week in 1999 it was happy news that Jimmy Dean the pig had found a new home at a farm in Woodinville. He had joined other pigs. The Rainforest Players were presenting a play called Henry and Emily; tickets were on sale at Tinker’s Tales. WOCA’s Art on the Hill (at the ONRC) had been a great success. As February was heading for a record rainfall total …Spartan Lake was full. (photo)

Fifty years ago this week things were getting serious with the ongoing gas shortage. Across the state, travelers were reporting they were being refused gas if they were not “local.” “Gas discrimination” could cost a station owner a big fine. The All-Indian Basketball Tournament had been held in La Push, the La Push gym had been packed with spectators. Three Forks teens had escaped death in a car accident south of Forks. In bowling news …Jess Parris was Bowler of the Week.

In 1952 Forks School Faculty and the Forks Lions basketball teams had met in a benefit basketball game to benefit the Heart Fund. The faculty had won. In community news, it was reported that Freshman Ronald Konopaski, UW College of Pharmacy, had made the honor roll.
