A Look Back …This week in the Forks Forum

Twenty-five years ago this week it had rained a bunch, almost 80 inches. The several-month total was more than some of our driest years! In police calls there had been a beer burglary from a garage on E. Street. The Errant Elk gift shop had opened in time for Rainfest. The new business focus was on northwest gift items. Rainforest Players had presented Once Upon a Mattress for Rainfest. Actors Jeff Giles and Mindy Pagac had appeared in a front-page photo (photo). Many letters to the editor were supporting the upcoming QVSD Levy.

Fifty years ago the annual Arvie Ward Memorial Tournament was coming up at La Push. Twelve teams were participating. In a letter to the editor Lena Fletcher was not happy with the condition of the highway going south from Forks. The Woodland Hotel Restaurant was featuring homemade bread and pies. The McStotts were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They had lived in the area about 10 years and recently moved to Puyallup (photo).

In 1952 the American Legion had held an Easter Egg Hunt at the school grounds, featuring special gold and silver eggs. It was reported in La Push news that Theo. (Butch) Eastman had written his parents sharing that he would soon be sent to the front lines. Butch was in the Marines. Dance students of Mrs. James Crippen had given a Tap Recital.
