Calawah bridge work snarls traffic

As if it weren’t hard enough to get to Forks, repair work on the main bridge over the Calawah River has backed up traffic at the city’s north entrance.

Lakeside Industries is replacing the deck on the U.S. Highway 101 bridge under a contract with the state Department of Transportation.

Traffic has been reduced to one lane across the bridge during construction.

Crews have been working from 7 a.m.-6:30 p.m. since Aug. 26 for the project. Work is set to be finished today, Thursday, Sept. 12.

The resurfacing project is intended to provide a smoother ride for motorists and to preserve the bridge structure.
