Community Invited to Poetry Workshop withClallam County Poet Laureate Nellie Bridge

The Sekiu Community Center will host a unique opportunity for aspiring writers and poetry enthusiasts on Saturday, July 26, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., as Clallam County Poet Laureate Nellie Bridge leads a “Where I’m From” Writing Workshop.

This free, low-pressure session invites participants to explore their personal histories and cultural roots through poetry. Using George Ella Lyon’s iconic poem Where I’m From as a model—originally inspired by Lyon’s friend, Jo Carson—the workshop will guide attendees in crafting their own versions of the poem. The format centers around a series of evocative, sensory lines that begin with the phrase “I am from,” encouraging writers to reflect on meaningful phrases, places, and objects from their lives.

Participants will read example poems aloud, write together, and be offered the chance to share their own work in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment. Sharing, however, is completely optional.
