Last Wednesday, sighting significant rainfall and more expected, the City of Forks modified the former complete burn ban put in place on July 26, 2024. The modification allows for recreational fires permitted by law as well as outdoor smokers, bar-b-ques (briquette or propane), etc. Various treatment of yards and driveways using fire torches is also allowed.
On Friday the county Fire Marshal, George Bailey, announced the county-wide burn ban had also been modified allowing small campfires in established rings and the use of charcoal grills on private property and campgrounds. Bailey noted in the press release that DNR still prohibits their use on their land until Sept. 30, 2024.
Bailey also noted the decision was made due to the recent rainfall/humidity conditions.
The city also reminded residents in the Forks Urban Growth area that general outdoor burning, unless properly licensed, is still prohibited.
Both entities added that additional modifications may occur if needed to ensure public safety.
Bailey added, “The Clallam County Fire Marshal’s office works closely with local fire districts and local fire departments, and strongly urges all county residents and property owners to be attentive to the condition of their properties through proactive fire prevention measures.”
