City set to have a big blast for 4th

With painted windows and a polished up train set, Forks once again has pulled out all the stops for this weekend’s version of the annual Old-Fashioned Fourth of July celebration.

 

The train again will highlight the day’s jubilee in the Grand Parade, which heads down Forks Avenue at high noon.

Community business leaders and local volunteer coordinators Bill and Kitty Sperry will be honored as grand marshals for the parade, with long-time West Enders Ron and Marge Shearer honored as pioneers.

 

Entries can begin checking in at 8 a.m., with judging at 10:30 a.m. in the Forks Outfitters Parking Lot.

 

The Kiddie Parade, sponsored by the Forks Emblem Club, precedes, heading down Forks Avenue from the Bank of America parking lot at 11:45 a.m. Check-in begins at 11:30 a.m.

 

Thursday’s events:

8-10 a.m. – Independence Day events begin with the Forks Elks Lodge’s annual 4th of July Breakfast at 941 Merchant Road. Cost is $7.

10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. – Arts, Photo & Crafts Show, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 251 Blackberry Ave.

1-4 p.m. – Forks Lions Club salmon bake, Tillicum Park. Cost is $13.

3 p.m. – Demolition Derby, Tillicum Park Arena. Gates open at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8.

Dusk – Forks Fireworks Display, Tillicum Park.

 

Friday’s events:

9 a.m. – Forks 4th of July Fun Run. Walk or Run on 1-mile,

5k or 10k courses. Registration is $25 and begins at 8 a.m. in the lot across from the Forks Coffee Shop.

Noon-5 p.m. – Arts, Photo & Crafts Show, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 251 Blackberry Ave.

5 p.m. – Bean bag toss,

Tillicum Park. Entry fee is $20, with proceeds going to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

7-11 p.m. – Moonlight Madness in downtown businesses and Forks Open Aire Market, sponsored by the

West End Business and Professional Association. Saturday’s events:

9 a.m. – Horseshoe Tournament at Tillicum Park. Sign-up begins at 8:30 a.m.

9 a.m. – West End Thunder races, Forks Municipal Airport (story in Sports).

Noon-2 p.m. – Forks Lions Club Kiddies Play Day at Tillicum Park.

4 p.m. – Frog jump at Tillicum Park.

6 p.m. – Cribbage Tournament, V.F.W. Hall, 110 S. Spartan Ave. $6.

 

Sunday’s event

9 a.m.-5p.m. – West End Thunder races, Forks Municipal Airport.
