Devils win 11-man tilt; Spartans fall

Three more on the field, no matter.

Neah Bay suited up an 11-man squad Friday to play Darrington and though the roster was different than the Red Devils’ 1B 8-man status quo, the result for the champions from the corner was the same.

The Devils blasted the 2B Loggers at Chief Leschi High School in Puyallup in a 50-6 rout that Neah Bay fans have become accustomed to.

Neah Bay is slated for a long road trip to face NE1B powerhouse Cusick on Friday.

Forks, meanwhile, cracked open the scoring against Charles Wright Academy on Saturday at Stewart Field in Aberdeen, but fell behind the prep school squad in the second half, losing its season opener 17-28.

Brett Pederson picked off a pass from Charles Wright’s Henry Cheney in the second quarter and ran it back 80 yards to pay dirt to put the Spartans on the board first.

An Andrew Armas field goal put Forks up 10-0 before Cheney hit a touchdown pass to close the half 10-7.

Cheney again tossed a score to open the third quarter and put CW up 14-10.

Miguel Morales, the mobile of the two Spartan signal callers, blasted in a 1-yard-run to answer and put Forks up 17-14.

Charles Wright put up two TDs in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

The Spartans host Nooksack Valley in a non-leaguer in Spartan Stadium on Saturday.

Clallam Bay had a disastrous opening at Aberdeen on Saturday, dropping the season-opener 0-52 to Wishkah Valley.

The Bruins are slated to host Muckleshoot on Friday night.
