The summer’s fireworks season comes to a close this weekend with the 89th Annual Makah Days celebration at Neah Bay.

Events begin at noon tomorrow, Friday, when the street fair opens on Bay View Avenue and the softball tournament opens at the high school.

Royalty will be crowned at 7 p.m. Friday after the talent show in the community gym, before fireworks explode over Neah Bay from Bay View Avenue at 10 p.m. The Slahal Games continue at 1 p.m. Saturday and conclude with the Slahal Tournament at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Activities continue through Saturday, with events opening at 9 a.m.

The Makah Days Parade proceeds down Front Street from the museum to the grandstand beginning at 20 a.m.

Traditional Makah dancing and a salmon bake begin at noon by the Senior Center.

Canoe races will take place all weekend, beginning with the youth canoe races at 3 p.m. Friday. Youth, men and women race canoes at noon Saturday and men and women continue the competition at 10 a.m. Sunday.

A traditional Makah dance will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, followed by a modern dance in the gym at 10:30 p.m. Modern dancing also will be in the gym at 10:30 p.m. Friday.

Fun races and games for children in grades 6 and above will be at 2 p.m. Saturday. Those in grades 5 and under will have their chance to compete at noon Sunday.

There is no admission fee for Makah Days. Those who want to use beaches, hike, fish or camp on Makah Tribal ground sill need a $10 recreational use permit.
