Pastor Pam Hunter says Habitat for Humanity, Clallam County, is committed to building a second Habitat house in Forks.

“With the leadership of people here in Forks, we are expecting to break ground in August, if not sooner,” she said.

But, she added, “We are missing something very important as of yet. We need qualifying families to apply to the selection committee to be reviewed. Of the qualifying families, one will be selected.”

Hunter said to determine if your family is eligible, consider these nine questions:

1) Is your current housing inadequate — that is, unsafe, in bad condition or too small for your family?

2) Are you unable to buy a home though other programs?

3) Do you pay your bills on a regular basis?

4) Would you like to help build your own house and can you get family and friends to help you?

5) Are you and your family willing to put in 300-500 sweat equity hours building your house?

6) Will you take part in a financial literacy class and develop a household budget, maintain detailed records and share that with Habitat?

7) Will you take part in Homebuyers and Home Maintenance classes?

8) Are you and your family legal residents of the U.S. and have you lived in Clallam County for at least a year?

9) Do you have enough income to pay a no-interest Habitat mortgage or low-interest USDA mortgage?

For this last question here are the numbers you need to know: the minimum income for a family of one is $1,432-$1,983, family of two $1,432-$2,267, family of three $1,432-2,550, family of four $1,432 to $2,833, and family of five $1,432-$3,067.
