Soroptimist International of Olympic Rain ForestHolding Mini-Auction Online in July

Fundraiser for SIORF Scholarships 2022

Soroptimist International of Olympic Rain Forest (SIORF) will be holding a mini-auction online Friday afternoon, July 23, through noon, Saturday, July 24. The small auction will raise additional money for next year’s Soroptimist education scholarships. All items are planned with summer in mind – pretty wooden planters, a beautiful handmade wall shelf, a basket of summer water and picnic fun, and more. Items must be picked up Saturday afternoon. More information coming in July.

SIORF gave five $1,000 Soroptimist scholarships this year, four to graduating seniors and one renewal scholarship to a previous winner who is completing her college education. SIORF women’s scholarships are supported by SIORF fund-raising, with a base of $5,000 designated in the budget each year. But the club would like to support even more students, so special fundraising is being held in July in hopes of supporting at least seven students in 2022.

Donations – If anyone is interested in donating directly to the SIORF scholarship fund, checks can be mailed to SIORF, PO Box 502, Forks, WA 98331. Please write “SIORF Scholarship Fund” on your check. SIORF is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization.

Making a Difference – Sue Trettevik, Scholarship Committee Chair for SIORF, shares that “The vision of Soroptimist International is to provide women and girls around the world with the resources and opportunities to reach their full potential and live their dreams. Education is an important part of economic potential and pursuing dreams for themselves and their families.” She adds further, “Education is also expensive. The lowest tuition and fees for in-state four-year public institutions in Washington for 2020-2021 was $7,720. Add room and board, transportation, books and more and a student’s cost to attend for one year is approximately $28,000. Out-of-state and private schools can be even more. So, any help students can get is important to their success.”
