Sully’s is on the market

It came as a bit of a sad shock a few weeks ago for the community to learn that Sully’s Drive-In is on the market for sale.

It was 1958 when Matt Sullivan, a weight control officer with the State Patrol, decided to open a donut shop on the south end of Forks.

Later the menu was expanded to add pre-made sandwiches and soon after the Sully’s burger was born. Adding fries, milkshakes, and ice cream cones Sully’s began to outgrow their very small establishment which contained a cooking area and a dining room containing three small tables.

In 1967 they moved to their current location at 220 N. Forks Ave. and have expanded with several remodels over the years.

Original owners Matt and Lorraine retired in 1982 and have since passed on.

Sullivan’s daughter Triss Guckenberg told the Forks Forum that the sale is not because of COVID, although it has been a difficult time for all of our local restaurants, Sully’s included. She said that the sale is a family decision. Her husband Bruce Guckenberg shared with members of West End Business at last Wednesday’s meeting that if there is a sale the name Sully’s will be retired …

If it does get sold and renamed it will always be Sully’s to those who grew up around here.
