Support the SOS

Did you know that Soroptimist International of the Olympic Rain Forest (SIORF) provides travel expense money for women with cancer? The SOS Fund (Soroptimist Oncology Support) was created 5 years ago to help women who travel from the West End of Clallam County to Sequim, Bremerton or Seattle for chemo, radiation and doctor appointments.

Approximately 40 assists have been provided since the fund has been in existence. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance with transportation expenses, please call Diane Edwards 374-6490, Cindy Mesenbrink 374-5718 or Mary Jacoby 327-3544.

Funding for this SOS program comes from the Duck Derby sales, Marathon Bingo and memorial donations from our community. This year Marathon Bingo will run from 11 a.m.- 6 p.m., Sunday, May 5,

at the Forks Elks Lodge — and the Duck Derby sales will take place on May 9. Please support the SOS Fund!

Marsha Gillespie, a recipient of the SOS Fund, said, “the SOS fund came to our aid during my arduous treatment in Renton each week. It was a boost to our stretched finances and sagging morale when we really needed it. I am very grateful to the Soroptimists and those who contribute to the fund for women like me.”
