Wrestling Regionals and State Action

The Spartan wrestling team finished in 2nd place at the regional wrestling tournament held the weekend of Feb. 15 and 16 in Hoquiam. Overall 9 male wrestlers qualified for the state tournament held at the Tacoma Dome on Feb. 21-22.

Individual regional champions included: Colton Duncan 138 lbs, Hayden Queen 170 lbs, and Jake Weakley 132 lbs.

Other qualifiers included:

Conner Demorest 3rd place at 106 lbs, Dalton Kilmer 3rd place at 120 lbs, Andres Santo-Delacruz 3rd place at 126 lbs, Ariel Morales 3rd place at 132 lbs, Luis Perez 4th place at 145 lbs. Hayden Baker 2nd place at 170 lbs, Hector Dominguez 5th place at 220 lbs.

The Spartan girls also wrestled at regionals held at Kelso High School. Karen Ensastegui-Salazar took 1st place at 100 lbs and Annhelica Wells placed 4th at 110 lbs. Both qualified for state and were to wrestle in Tacoma.

Spartans who won the 1A Southwest District 4 championships and went on to state are from left Karen Ensastegui who won one out of three at state having to compete with all classifications, Jake Weakley placed 4th, Hayden Queen placed 5th, and Colton Duncan placed 5th. Also placing were Ariel Morales 5th and Hayden Baker 3rd. Also competing at State but not pictured were Conner Demorest, Dalton Kilmer, Andres Delacruz, Luis Perez, and Annhelica Wells. Making the trip as an alternate was Hector Dominguez. Forks as a team placed 7th in the 1A classification at State competition in the Tacoma Dome February 21-22.
