Barbara Jean Slyter

Barbara Jean Slyter was taken suddenly by cancer on April 25, 2014.

Barbara was born January 25, 1938, to James and Francis Daman in Shelton, Washington. Later, the family moved to Forks, where she lived most of her life.

Barb graduated from Forks High School in 1956.

Soon after graduation, she married Ted Rasmussen and had three children, Tim, Ted and Brenda.

Later, she married Ed Huling.

In 1979, she met the love of her life, Gary Slyter. They married July 17, 1982. Barb and Gary loved to travel together.

Barb love being with her family, whether camping, playing bingo, cooking, playing cards or just to laugh. She also loved to knit, crochet and sew.

Barb had been an Advocate Emblem Sister since the early 1970s.

Barb was preceded in death by both parents and her half-sisters, Josephine Brown and Dorthy Sallee, and half-brothers, Joe and Everett Daman.

She is survived by husband, Gary; sons Tim Rasmussen, Ted Rasmussen and Lance Slyter; and daughter Brenda Palmer. She is also survived by her sister, Janet Joseph; brother Ken Daman; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren, with two on the way.

Barb was very well-known in the community, and everyone loved her for her big heart, friendliness, willingness to help anyone in need and her beautiful smile.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014, at the Forks Elks Lodge, 941 Merchants Road, Forks, at 1 p.m.
