This week in 2000 Liz Rohde and Jason Richard were named as Students of the Year at Forks High School (photo). Students from Cheryl Archibald’s 5th grade class had toured District II Court and the Forks jail. They took turns sitting in Judge Owens’ chair and in the jail officer Brian King had taken their “mug shots” (photo). Veterans Bob Henry, Bob Tuttle, Dick Moody and Sam McElravy had attended Val Giles’ US History class and answered questions about their military service.
1975 – missing edition
This week in 1953 it was announced that the largest class in the history of Forks Grade School was preparing for 8th grade graduation. Some in the class included James Decker, Wesley Depew, Clark Browning, Mary Campbell and Henrietta Cooper …plus 45 more. Kathryn Henry had won the Grand Prize of $3 in the Memorial Poppy Poster contest. Longtime West End resident Milton Dilley had passed.
This week in 1939 the Neah Bay community had gotten 3.12 miles of streets upgraded with better drainage, ditches, grading and crushed rock. As a tourist attraction R. O. Wahlgren had proposed a mammoth log be placed on Jake Hahn’s triangle lot. It was reported that 450 men had returned to work at Bloedel-Donovan’s Sekiu, Beaver and Sappho Camps.
