If April showers have you feeling a little “sew-sew,” don’t worry, the Fabric of the Forest Quilt Show is here to patch things up.
Presented by the Piecemakers Quilt Club, this colorful annual community event happens Friday through Sunday, April 17–19, at the Forks High School Auxiliary Gym, 261 Spartan Avenue. With no admission fee (though donations are warmly welcomed), it’s the perfect excuse to wander in, stay awhile, and get wrapped up in something cozy.
Show hours are Friday from noon to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., plenty of time to soak in the creativity stitched into every corner of the gym.
Inside, visitors will find a vibrant display of quilts crafted by talented local quilters, each piece telling its own story through fabric and thread. A special highlight this year includes quilts made by Martha Paul in honor of veterans, a heartfelt tribute sure to leave an impression. Also on display: stunning Native American button robes, offering a unique and culturally rich addition to the show.
Feeling inspired? Stop by the demo table to pick up a few quilting tips, or browse the vendor booth for treasures to take home. Whether you’re a seasoned quilter or someone who just appreciates a good pattern, there’s something here for everyone.
For those ready to dive in a little deeper, hands-on classes will be offered during the weekend, taught by Brenda Vakarro, a talented quilter and long-arm specialist from Elma. Friday’s class, “Party Crackers,” promises a festive, holiday-inspired project, while Saturday’s “Strike A Cord” will strike a creative chord with participants. Registration forms are available at Chinook Pharmacy.
The Piecemakers Quilt Club is more than just a group; it’s a hub for creativity and connection, dedicated to teaching and promoting the art of quilting for all skill levels through classes, retreats, and gatherings year-round.
And you can be part of the show. West End quilters and quilt lovers are invited to display their own creations or family treasures. Quilts can be registered on Thursday, April 16, between 3 and 5:30 p.m., at the Aux. Gym, and must be picked up Sunday at 4 p.m. Antique quilts are especially welcome and always a crowd favorite.
