Carlson Claims Top Honors at Fourth of July Cribbage Tournament

A total of 52 cribbage players gathered at the Forks Congregational Church on Thursday evening to compete in the annual Fourth of July Cribbage Tournament, playing for $775 in gift cards along with handcrafted cribbage boards made by the Olympic Corrections Center woodworking shop.
Players earned two points for each win and three points for every skunk during the 2½-hour tournament.
When the final cards were played, Chuck Carlson claimed first place with five wins and two skunks for a total of 16 game points. Carlson received a custom first-place cribbage board and a $100 Forks Outfitters gift card.
Zach Carlson finished second with five wins and one skunk, totaling 13 game points and a 121-point differential. He earned a custom second-place cribbage board and a $100 Decker City Hardware gift card.
Andrew Watson also finished with 13 game points but had a 117-point differential, placing him third. Watson received a custom third-place cribbage board and a $50 gift card.
Rob Rogers placed fourth and received a $50 gift card, while Eric Wang finished fifth, also earning a $50 gift card. The next 16 finishers each received $25 gift cards.
Chuck deOng won the tournament’s “Split the Pot” drawing, taking home $104.
Tournament Director Warren Johnson thanked the many businesses and organizations that made the event possible.
“I would like to thank our sponsors—Forks Outfitters, Decker City Hardware, Sully’s Drive-In, Blakelee’s Bar and Grill, the West End Tap Room, Olympic Corrections Center and the Forks Congregational Church,” Johnson said. “This tournament would not happen without your support.”
The annual tournament remains a popular Fourth of July tradition, bringing together local players and visitors alike for an evening of friendly competition as part of Forks’ Old Fashioned Fourth of July celebration.
