On Sunday, March 5, 2023 at about 9:57 a.m., Clallam County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a report that there was a man deceased on a river bank in the Sol Duc River outside of Forks, WA.

The reporting party advised the male was obviously deceased and was wearing a tan fishing vest.

Deputies responded with medics and a swift water rescue team was deployed. Deputies later located a single-person pontoon boat stuck in a log jam about a mile from where the deceased male was located.

The deceased male was identified as a 45-year-old Tacoma resident, Joseph D. Jarzynka. Per information provided by his family, Jarzynka came to Forks to go fishing and brought with him a single-person pontoon boat.

The Clallam County Coroner was notified, and an autopsy is pending.
