The last weekend of October the Forks Lions Club was once again excited and proud to complete the Quincy Wood for Food project.
Each year, since 1979, logs from Forks, several truckloads, are delivered to the Quincy Men’s Service Club. While in Quincy, Forks Lions and the Quincy club members cut the loads into rounds. The firewood is sold by the Quincy Club to fund vocational school scholarships.
In return, the Forks Lions bring back produce from local Quincy Farms to the Forks Community Food Bank. This year Forks Lions brought back;
Fuji Apples 3 bins- 3 thousand pounds
Carrots 2 bins- 1.5 thousand pounds
Potatoes 3 pallets-4 thousand pounds
Red onions 1 pallet-1.3 thousand pounds
White onions 1 pallet-1.3 thousand pounds
Dry beans-200 pounds.
The Forks Lions would like to thank all the Lions who volunteered their time, trucks, saws, and trailers, the Quincy Men’s Service Club volunteers who help make this happen every year, the Future Farmers of America in Quincy who came out and stacked wood, Rayonier Forks for donating a load of wood, M&R for donating a load of wood, Jose Silva and Silva Trucking for driving a load, David Crippen and Worley Trucking for driving a load, Jerry’s Rentals, Sales, and Services for donating chains, mix, bar oil, files, and hearing protection, the Quincy Moose Lodge for hosting the Forks Lions every year, all the farms who donated, and the Forks Community Food Bank for taking and distributing the food to our community.
