The Forks Congregational Church has set the date for a beloved community tradition—the 90th Annual Harvest Dinner—to be held on Friday, Oct. 17, in conjunction with Hickory Shirt–Heritage Days.
The dinner has long been a highlight of fall in Forks, rich with tradition and stories that locals still share. One favorite memory comes from the year the power went out mid-event. Volunteers scrambled to bring in generators and serve turkey sandwiches, salads, and pie by improvised light. Guests enjoyed the cozy, make-do spirit so much that many suggested it should become the “official” way of doing things.
This year, as tradition calls, the menu will feature turkey with all the trimmings, salmon, salads, beverages, and plenty of desserts. Tickets remain affordable—$10 for adults, $6 for seniors and children under 12—making it a true community gathering where no one leaves hungry.
“Some folks have lived here for years and have never attended,” said Pastor Warren Johnson. “But once they come, they realize what they’ve been missing—good home cooking and a chance to visit with friends and neighbors.”
Proceeds from the dinner help cover costs for the many nonprofit groups that meet at the church throughout the year.
Community members are invited to help by donating apple or pumpkin pies, salads, or volunteering at the dinner. To contribute, contact Pastor Johnson at 360-640-8239 (cell), 360-374-9382 (home, leave a message), or by email at wrjfork@hotmail.com
The Congregational Church extends its thanks in advance to all who support the dinner and looks forward to another year of fellowship, food, and tradition.
