The Quillayute Valley Parks and Recreation District board met on Wednesday, Sept. 24, with members Don Grafstrom, Gordon Gibbs, Susie Brandelius, Dave Gedlund, and Tyler Maxfield present. Also attending was Ruby Swagerty.
Treasurer Tyler Maxfield reported that finances remain steady.
One key item approved was Forks Community Hospital’s request to use the community center at no charge once a month from October 2025 through June 2026. The hospital will hold free public sessions on health, aging, fall prevention, and independent living.
Facility maintenance and upgrades dominated much of the discussion. The board reviewed the HVAC system and its scheduled upkeep, and agreed that three bids will be sought for seal coating, crack filling, and line painting of the parking lot. Members also discussed a rental agreement with a local baker for the commercial kitchen.
Swagerty joined the board in reviewing repairs for propane tanks. Additional facility topics included renewal of the American Legion lease, potential subletting for other community groups, replacing the kitchen ranges with either gas or electric models, and clarifying responsibility for repairing a pothole at the parking lot entrance.
Board members also noted the need for improved signage to better publicize the location and ideas for posting when the community room is available.
Looking ahead, the board discussed the upcoming levy.
