A ‘Wallace for President’ ad had appeared in the paper. The county had installed several new culverts on Calawah Way, past the cemetery. It was hoped the installation would alleviate flooding on the Upper Forks Prairie, and Kelso’s chickens would no longer have to worry about drowning. Spartan football players of the week were Bob Seigle and Gary Gaydeski (photo).
This week in 1953, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Huggins were building their new store, Forks Dept. and Variety, at the corner of E. Division St. and Forks Avenue. The cost for construction was $20,000, and they hoped to occupy the building by January 1954. They were previously renting a spot in the IOOF building. The winners of the American Legion baby contest were Leona (Sammy) Leppell and James Michael Gorham. Each received a gold loving cup and a crown. Jim Scarlett and Bobby Swerin had attended the UW-OSC game in Seattle.
