The Clallam County Planning Commission will continue its public hearings on proposed updates to the county’s land use and zoning regulations at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, and again on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. Both hearings will take place in the Commissioners Meeting Room at the Clallam County Courthouse.
The hearings will address proposed amendments to Title 31 (Clallam County Comprehensive Plan) and Title 33 (Clallam County Zoning Code), updates required under the State’s Growth Management Act (GMA, RCW 36.70A).
Among the proposed changes is an update to the Comprehensive Land Use Map and Zoning Map for approximately 31.3 acres within the unincorporated Sequim Urban Growth Area. The designation would shift from Sequim Urban Residential II (SR-II) to Sequim Urban Residential III (SR-III), increasing the allowable housing density from five residences per acre to ten residences per acre.
Also under consideration is a change in the Clallam Bay/Sekiu Urban Growth Area, where all properties currently designated Urban Residential High (URH) would be reclassified as Urban Moderate Density (MD). This adjustment would increase allowable density from one residence per 12,500 square feet to 16 residences per acre. Both proposals respond to new statewide housing requirements outlined in RCW 36.70A.070(2).
The full text and maps of the proposed amendments are available on the county website.
Any interested individual may submit written or oral comments. Public comments may be delivered during the hearings or submitted in advance by email to web_DCDPlan@ClallamCountyWa.Gov
, or by mail or in person at the Department of Community Development, 223 E. 4th St., Suite 5, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
After the hearings conclude, the Planning Commission will forward its recommendations to the Clallam County Board of Commissioners for further review and action.
