Men and women in the Forks area who might be expecting a child, have parenting and relationship questions, can find help and resources in the ministry known as “The Caring Place.” Founded in 1985, the mission of the Caring Place of West Clallam County is “to defend life through educating and supporting pregnant women, bringing them to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and educating our community to adopt a godly view of sexuality and the sanctity of human life.” This is accomplished by trained volunteers offering confidential, compassionate support free of charge, regardless of age, gender, race, marital status, or religion.

Free services include both emotional and practical support for men and women. Pregnancy tests, maternity items, baby clothing and supplies, and medical referrals are provided, as are childbirth education, lactation consulting, parenting/relationship building, pregnancy loss and many other helpful kindnesses. For instance, the Gideons provide Bibles in English and Spanish, and The Good Book Foundation offers Children’s Bibles and storybooks.

Of course, all these services involve a financial burden. The Caring Place finances are supplied by local churches, individuals, and yearly fundraisers. Grants from Rayonier and Rice Bowl help with specific projects for clients. Various local groups offer tangible things like diapers, blankets, layette needs, and baby equipment.

The Caring Place is located at 481 West “E” Street, Forks WA 98331. Walk-in hours are 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. For up-to-the-minute information about classes, meetings and support groups, call (360) 374-5010 of follow us on Facebook. Appointments can be arranged at a time that is convenient for you.

Executive Director Pam Cantrell and Office Manager Rita Calamar offer decades of combined experience and are supported by a host of volunteers. The entire staff is thrilled that The Caring Place is entering its fifth decade of service and stands ready to welcome everyone at The Caring Place.
