Dogs and inmates get a second chance

Forks High School senior Reis Lawson’s senior project is raising awareness about the Olympic Corrections Center’s dog Program. Lawson recently brought Buddy, one of the dogs in the program, to a Forks Chamber of Commerce meeting.

Dahlgren to present documentary in Forks

John Dahlgren was born and raised in Forks, so it seems only natural that he would want to share his first project of his career with his home town. After Dahlgren graduated from Forks High School in 2000 he attended school in Bellingham, Eugene and Seattle and wrote a couple of screen plays.

Spruce Up Forks-a huge success

Last Saturday over sixty volunteers from businesses, service groups, Scout troops, the Coast Guard and just people who cared showed up at First Federal for their “assignments” before heading out to the not terribly dirty, but needing some TLC, streets of Forks to spruce things up.

Quilt to be raffled

The Piecemakers Quilt Club of Forks' main goal is to educate and encourage people to start quilting. In order to accomplish this goal the group has one quilt raffle each year that coincides with the Fabric of the Forest Quilt Show and classes. The money raised covers the cost of the show and pays to hire teachers to come to Forks.

Good use of umbrellas — decorating them

If there is one thing that gives away an out of towner in Forks it is the use of an umbrella, although there are still a few locals that hang on to the poor things, spokes all sticking out. Not using one is sort of a badge of honor, no umbrella!, we get wet we dry out, and so, sadly we make fun of people who do use them.

Don Edward Secor Jr. Don Edward Secor Jr. was born to Don Secor and Shelby Atkins on March 25, 2014, at the Forks Community Hospital at 9:56 p.m. He weighed 6 pounds, 7.8 ounces.

West End Business & Professional Association Business Spotlight

The business was started in 1958 by the Sullivans, the original location was at the corner of U.S. Highway 101 and "G" Street, they served donuts and sandwiches. Eventually outgrowing the original location they moved to where they are today and have remodeled several times over the years.

“Spruce Up” this weekend

“Spruce Up Forks” on April 12 is a community-wide effort to clean up problem areas in and around the city of Forks. Local clubs, businesses and citizens will be donning their orange vests to pitch in and give Forks some love, by picking up litter, window washing, doing some much needed landscaping and more.

One of my favorite things to do is spend a day in Clallam Bay and/or Sekiu. So last Thursday I asked my mom if she would like to join me for a drive to the sister towns on the strait.

Quinault Nation declares state of emergency

Fawn Sharp, President of the Quinault Indian Nation, declared a state of emergency in Taholah on Tuesday night due to a breach in the Taholah seawall and destruction of a smokehouse, other outbuildings and properties in the lower village.
