Forest road closure will start Monday

A portion of Forest Service road 29 will close starting Monday, July 19 until Sept. 15. The road runs from Sitkum- Solduc Road, northwest of Forks, to Cooper Ranch Road, east of Sappho.

The closure, between milepost 15.9 and milepost 18.3, will allow for the replacement of two culverts.

The new culverts will help prevent mass wasting, sediment delivery into the Sitkum River and will reduce the potential for road infrastructure failures, according to a U.S.

Developed recreation sites, including trailheads and campgrounds, along FS-29, will remain accessible, according to a U.S.

Forest Service press release.

The closure will limit public access to portions of the Sitkum ridgeline for wood cutting, hunting, and dispersed camping.
