Prevention Club – Getting the message out

Forks Middle School Prevention Club is wrapping up another year of engaging activities done throughout the school year. The club slogan is “Fight for What’s Right, Spartans Unite, We are Drug and Alcohol-Free”.

The club has done an excellent job of using positive messaging that emphasizes that most kids in our school make substance-free choices!

Some of the activities done this year include a scavenger hunt encouraging students to write down their own substance-free choices this summer, student-led classroom presentations teaching about the effects of tobacco, including cigarettes, chewing tobacco, and vaping, and an egg hunt activity educating students about the effects of teen marijuana use. Club members, Julieanne and Mollie used their art skills to create an informational card encouraging and educating students. This card was showcased on a statewide level through the Washington State OSPI newsletter.

Club advisor, Alissa Seda Shaw has seen her members step into a new level of leadership and ownership this year, despite having to do most club meetings online.

Members include Skye Hestand (President), Mario Flores Contreras (Vice President), Julieanne (Treasurer), Mollie Franklin (Secretary), Alvaro Martin-Mendoza, Darinel Garcia-Lopez, Giovanney Perez-Albarran, Isabelle Mills, Miley Blanton, Trentson Pope, Eduardo Calmo-Calmo, and Brodie Fletcher.
