Tdap vaccination clinic set for Forks

A special Tdap (pertussis) vaccination clinic will be from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, at the Forks Health and Human Services office located at 140 “C” St. All child and adult vaccinations, except travel vaccinations, will be available during this clinic.

Clallam County Health and Human Services reported five confirmed cases of pertussis in the West End of Clallam County in July 2013. Adults with pertussis may not become very sick but can infect a non-immunized infant for whom pertussis can be a life-threatening illness. At this time, a single dose of Tdap is recommended for all adults. Pregnant women should receive a Tdap vaccine during the 27th and 36th week of pregnancy.

Tdap vaccinations will be available for $12 for adults age 19 and above who do not have health insurance or their health insurance does not cover immunizations. Adults with health insurance can go to their pharmacy or medical provider.

It is recommended that children have five pertussis containing vaccines by age 6 years. One additional dose of Tdap should be given to children at age 11-12 years and is required for sixth-grade school entry.
