Spartan Cross Country Wrap-up

By Brian Weekes

The boys and girls both competed at Cross Country District 4 race on Saturday, October 29 at the Rainier HS XC course. The girls got 2nd overall out of 19 schools, with the following individual placements, Moli Luon 10th, Kendall Marshall 19th, Annika Leverington 24th, Hailey Garcia-Moog 33rd, and Erema Tost 34th.

The boy’s team took 6th out of the 19 schools, in a very tight race for a state berth. The girl’s teams only got to send one team and the top 7 individuals to the state meet so our girls missed out on a trip to state.

The boy’s side got to take 4 teams to state and the top 28 individuals. Their 6th place finish was 9 points out from the 3rd place spot going to state. It was a very tight race for the last 2 team spots to state and our boys just missing out. However individually Kevin Camacho at 18th and Nova Raupp at 27th got individual qualifications for the state meet.

The others who rounded out the team were Braden Camacho 36th, Brian Lucas 41st, Darinel Lopez 42nd, and Klayton Fletcher at 64th.

The two boys Kevin and Nova ran the state meet on Saturday, Nov 5th, at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco. They both ran well with Kevin finishing 96th and Nova at 122nd.

Overall the XC team had a very good year. There were many new runners this year, with younger runners to help build our future program. They have run all over the state against the best teams in the state, held their own, and had a lot of fun doing so.
