The Spartans Boys basketball team made a trip to Cheney to visit Eastern Washington University for the EWU Summer Basketball team camp the weekend of July 8-10. The basketball team left on Thursday and stayed the night so they could tour the campus and get the college experience.
The Spartans faced the best competition they have seen all summer and ended up finishing tied for third place in the final Sunday Bracket for the Camp Champ. EWU assistant coach David Riley wrote coach Rick Gooding the Monday after camp saying, “Coach, thank you so much for attending the camp, it was great working with you and your kids at camp this week. Thank you for attending all of the skills sessions, Forks kids left a great impression on all of our staff and players.”
Student athletes not only got to compete in seven games but they got to attend personal skill sessions with EWU basketball coaches and players, stay in college dorms for a weekend and had a great team bonding weekend. Something that Gooding says is vital for success.

“Our guys became a team on this trip. We traveled across the state together, talked, laughed and competed with each other and really came together and did some great things.” It was a successful summer for the Spartans and Gooding said that none of it would have been possible without the help from the community.
“We live in a town that supports our programs with Fun Runs, donations, spaghetti feeds, weenie wagons and hundreds of other fundraisers. We are so blessed to have a community that backs our programs and help the youth do what they do. Thank you to parents, fans and community for the constant support!”
