This week in 2000 Monday had been proclaimed to be Pat Bennett Day as the Spartan Football player had been named High School Heisman Award Winner. In Forks Police calls, a caller had reported that the hood of his car had been covered in butter and a picture drawn into the butter. Fifty years ago this week La Push had flooded (photo). The residents there had seen almost 30 inches of rain in the month of October! In spite of all that rain the La Push sewer project was nearing completion; the water system was also being upgraded. A number of businesses and homes in Sekiu had suffered complete loss or significant damage in an early morning fire. A reception for John and Edna Leppell was being planned in recognition of their upcoming 25th wedding anniversary. In display ads Baker’s IGA Food Market was offering a special on TP … 69¢ for 4-rolls. Halmor Ford’s ad, had a 1974 F250 for $4,895.
This week in 1953 the Grange had raised $160 to donate to the Olympic Clinic Airlock Fund. The upcoming PTA meeting was honoring dads with Dad’s Night. The topic of discussion was to be “How much Allowance?” In town council news Olympic Theater owner Estene Fletcher had asked the council to consider removing the admission tax they had levied on her business. Spartan football player, Arvie Ward had suffered an injury at a recent football game and was hospitalized at Olympic Clinic.
