Applications Open for Maury and Betty Hull Scholarship

Scholarship awarded $72,500 to 20 local students in 2024

Applications are open for a scholarship fund established to honor the lives of Peninsula Telecom owners Maury and Betty Hull.

Last year, the fund provided 20 students with scholarship awards totaling more than $72,500, which amounts to an average of $3,629 per student. The Community Foundation for Southwest Washington manages the application process, which is scheduled to close on April 30, 2025. Awards for this cycle will apply toward financial aid during the 2025-26 academic year.

Deanna Green, Senior Scholarship Manager and Development Associate, said the fund exists to support graduates from the Quillayute Valley and Cape Flattery School Districts pursuing post-secondary education, including vocational certificates, graduate and post-graduate programs. All graduates from the two school districts are encouraged to apply at www.cfsww.org/scholarships.

The Maury and Betty Hull Scholarship was established at the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington in 2018 with $1.8 million from the late couple’s estate. To date, the fund has provided 118 awards, totaling more than $513,000.

Awards are eligible for renewal for the duration of a student’s degree or certificate program if they meet course requirements and reapply each year. Awards are determined by a selection committee consisting of Community Foundation staff, community members and a member of the Hull family.
