Biggest ‘tree hugging’ event at Lake Quinault Lodge

The Quinault Valley Rain Forest is home to six of the largest trees of their species in the world. From 9:30 a.m.-noon June 8, neighbors and tree lovers alike are invited to join the Forest Service, Lake Quinault Lodge and a silviculturist to explore the forest that supports these giants.

Trees of the Olympic will include an easy two-mile hike leaving from Lake Quinault Lodge. Along the way, experts will discuss how these forests are managed, the impact of natural disasters and people’s attempts to be good stewards of the land. The hike is suitable for all ages, comfortable shoes, binoculars and cameras are recommended. The trail is not wheelchair accessible.

Silviculture is the practice of controlling the establishment, growth, composition, health and quality of forests.

The event is free. For more information, contact Sandra Miller, activities manager, Lake Quinault Lodge, at 360-288-2922 or Miller-Sandra2@aramark.com.
