On the evening of November 11, the Breakwater Restaurant filled up with Veterans and their families. They were treated to their choice of a delicious Prime Rib or Fish & Chips dinner. The event was organized by Lions Donna Keys and Jerry White.
The setting included a “Fallen Soldier” table arranged by Dan and Jackie Ahrens. “This is a symbolic way to honor military members who are fallen, missing, or imprisoned. The setup is typically a small table, with an empty chair and a single place setting that includes a white tablecloth, an inverted glass, a single red rose, a pinch of salt, a slice of lemon and a lit candle.”
When guests were all seated, Lion Donna Keys invited all Vets to stand and introduce themselves, including their service information.
Introductions were followed by Emcee Don Fischel giving some general
reflections on Veterans Day and explaining the symbolism of the Fallen
Soldier table. Conversation and laughter filled the restaurant as Vets
and families enjoyed the food and the company.
