Clallam Transit System Awarded $1,475,673 Funds from Federal Transit Administration

Clallam Transit System (“CTS”) is awarded $1,475,673 after successfully competing in the Buses and Bus Facilities Grant Program administered by the Federal Transit Administration. This award represents one of 282 eligible applications competing for $546 million. The total amount requested from all applicants represents $3.68 billion in transit asset capital needs.

Millions of Americans rely on American-made transit buses and vans to get where they need to go every day. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration has announced $1.66 billion in grants to transit agencies, territories, and states across the country to invest in 150 bus fleets and facilities. The Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program supports projects to replace, rehabilitate, purchase or lease buses and related equipment, and facilities.

This funding award will enable Clallam Transit System to continue to maintain its established vehicle replacement schedule by replacing three heavy-duty buses that have met the useful life benchmark with three new model significantly advanced reliable buses.

Transit agencies benefit from additional funding for infrastructure through increases in the Buses and Bus Facilities Grants. Combined with a 15% set aside for rural areas, means that areas like Clallam County can keep their fleet in a state of good repair. This improves safety and efficiency while reducing costly maintenance for breakdowns resulting in disruptions to service that people depend on.

“We’re so happy that the Federal Transit Administration recognizes the needs of our rural partners/’ said Brian Lagerberg, director of the WSDOT Public Transportation Division. “We value the partnership of WSDOT, FTA, and Clallam Transit System.”
