Staff honored at Olympic Corrections Center

Annual awards announced

Public Service Recognition Week began May 1 at Olympic Corrections Center (OCC). Superintendent John Aldana announced the following 2010 Facility Awards.  Recipients were recognized during OCC’s Annual Awards Banquet which was held Wednesday, May 11.

• Charlene Clark – 2010 OCC Volunteer of the Year (AA)

 Clark is the sponsor for the Alcoholics Anonymous group.  She organizes the other volunteers who come out to OCC and communicates with the Volunteer Coordinator for any changes that need to be made or any guest speakers who may come in to meet with the offenders.  She is  noted by staff to be a very upbeat person who is a pleasure to talk to and work with.

• Carol Hanson – 2010 OCC Employee of the Year

Hanson has been employed at OCC for five years and has demonstrated both commitment and dedication during this time. She has served as the Administrative Assistant to the Captain and provides major support to the facility.  Carol provides quality service to the custody staff of Olympic Corrections Center while she maintains a balance of the needs of the facility, its employees and custody expenditures.  Carol loves her team at OCC.

In her spare time she enjoys playing with her two Corgis, Harry and Otis;  AND, shopping, especially for  her new grandson.   

   

• Rick Gooding – 2010 OCC Correctional Officer of the Year

Officer Richard (Rick) Gooding is an outstanding DOC employee and community member in Forks.  Rick is a 1999 graduate of Forks High School and a graduate of Eastern Washington University where he earned a teaching degree.  Following college, Rick taught at the Forks Middle School and High school before hiring on with the Department of Corrections in 2007.  After working briefly for Clallam Bay Corrections Center, Rick transferred to Olympic Corrections Center in 2008.  Rick has worked several posts in the facility and completed a temporary assignment as a Recreation Specialist.  Today Officer Gooding is a unit Officer in the Ozette Complex, which houses both the Therapeutic Community program and Secured Housing Unit; a study in contrasts, which Rick manages well. Away from work Rick enjoys spending time with his family and coaching JV Boys Basketball for Forks High School.
