The Forks Spartans girls basketball team knew that with leading scorer Bailey Johnson sidelined with a wrist injury, everyone would need to contribute offensively. That wasn’t a problem last Thursday night, as the Spartans (8-7) dominated an overmatched Chief Leschi team (6-6), cruising to a 75-35 win.
Freshman Brooklynn Rondeau, a 5’5” guard, quickly took control of the game, scoring five early points as Forks opened on a seven-point run.
Rondeau may be familiar to local listeners. As a seventh-grader, she was once interviewed at halftime of a Peninsula Pirates basketball game on KONP Newsradio. When asked how hunting season was going, Rondeau replied, “Really good! My dad shot a bear in our driveway!” Many listeners later said they nearly drove off the road laughing.
The Warriors weren’t laughing this time. Rondeau led all scorers with 18 points, knocking down three three-pointers.
Six-foot post Avery Dilley controlled the low blocks, finishing with 15 points. Fynlie Peters added 13 points, including two three-point shots, while Chloe Gaydeski scored 12 points attacking the basket. Karee Neel chipped in eight points. Kendyl Woody scored four, Kailyn Crowder hit a three-pointer, and Leighton Foster added two points to round out the scoring.
