The Forks High School Spartans made their mark at the district track and field championships, qualifying athletes in eight events for the upcoming state tournament in Yakima scheduled for May 28. It was a standout performance filled with personal records, breakthrough moments, and team pride.
Leading the charge was Noah Foster, who claimed the title of district champion in the 400 meters, clocking a personal record of 52.03 seconds. Foster also secured a third-place finish in the 200 meters, capping off a stellar day on the track.
In the field events, Gage Willenbrink soared to a personal best of 19’9.5” in the long jump, good for fourth place, and added a second-place finish in the high jump, securing his spot at state in both events.
On the girls’ side, Erika Williams made history with her fourth-place finish in the 100 meters, becoming the first Forks girl to qualify for state in that event since 1999. Williams also anchored the girls 4×400-meter relay team, alongside teammates Skye Hestand, Moli Luong, and Lizzie Morrison, to a third-place finish and an eight-second PR of 4:28.27.
In the throws, Reagan Dunn launched the javelin 104’8”, earning third place with a personal best, while Kareena Nandial threw a PR of 29’2” in the shot put to claim fourth place.
Though only the top four finishers in each event advanced to state, three more Spartans narrowly missed the cut, placing fifth, each with a personal best, showcasing the team’s incredible effort.
“To have athletes qualify in eight events and see so many PRs across the board — it was simply amazing,” said coach Pam Gale. “This team showed so much heart, and I couldn’t be more proud.”
The Spartans now set their sights on Yakima.
