Roughriders defeat Spartans in season, non-league opener

18-0

Port Angeles 18  – Forks 0

The game didn’t turn out the way the Spartans had hoped. Playing without a few of the regulars the game started well. Michael Dean pitched two strong innings giving up a triple and two runs only one earned.

Troy Johnson pitched a scoreless third inning and the Spartans picked off a runner on a bunt attempt and executed a perfect run down play. In the fourth inning the infield turned its first double play of the season.

However the the fourth inning was a baseball disaster. Three Spartan pitchers allowed eight hits, three walks and one hit batter. The defense committed four errors. This lead to 14 runs for Port Angeles.

Jalen DePew got the only Spartan hit in the fifth inning.

The Monday, March 12 Spartan varsity baseball game against Lake Quinault was been cancelled due to inclement weather and will be made up later in the season.

Next up for the Spartans are games at Sequim on Wednesday, March 14 and the home opener against North Beach on Friday, March 16.
