It was a tale of 2 halves in the Onalaska Loggers’ 55 – 30 win over Forks in a girls 2B SW district match-up.

The Spartans (2-5) actually led the Loggers (5-3) 16 -10 early in the 2nd quarter, led by the 15 first-half points of 5’7” Jr. Bailey Johnson.

The Loggers outscored the Spartans 19-11 in the 2nd quarter to take a 30-23 lead at the half.

The 2nd half completely belonged to Onalaska, who started the 3rd quarter on a 14-1 run. Avery Dilley’s free throw ended the Spartans’ drought with 1:16 left in the 3rd quarter. The Loggers led 47-24 after 3 quarters.

The Spartans did not hit a field goal until Dilley made a 3-point play on the low blocks with 4:04 left in the game.

Loggers shooting guard Jr. Emalie Jacoby, a 2nd Team All-State selection in volleyball, led the Loggers with 16 points. In a blowout win over Port Angeles the day before, Jacoby hit for 32 points. Sr. Guard Randi Haight hit for 13 points.

For Forks, Johnson led with 15 points.

Dilley added 8 points. Kailyn Crowder scored 4 points, and Hailey Rondeau scored 3 points.

There was a definite Forks – Onalaska connection in this game. Alana Olson, the head coach of Onalaska, is married to former Forks Spartan Kurt Olson, a 1000-point scorer who helped lead Forks to three state basketball tournaments.

The Olsons’ daughter, Mia, is a 5’7 ” 8th grader who plays on the varsity team and scored 2 points.

The large Onalaska crowd behind the Loggers’ bench could have easily been called Olsonville, as around two dozen family members cheered on Mia Olson during the game.
