For the first time in its 79-year history, Olympic Peninsula Humane Society (OPHS) is hosting a Benefit Concert at the Field Arts & Events Hall in Port Angeles on Friday, Oct. 24.

The concert features The Steel Wheels, a bluegrass/roots band from Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains that is known for its 4-part vocal harmonies and storytelling lyrics.

A silent auction will occur before the performance spotlighting a variety of foods, adventures, and unique gifts contributed by local businesses and community members such as monthly meals for two at a popular local restaurant for a year, a family package to Woodland Park Zoo, two separate trips to Victoria, and other fun items.

Jim Faddis and Rick Meade from FarmStrong will provide entertainment during the Silent Auction; libations and food will also be available for purchase.

OPHS re-homes more than 1,500 animals each year. Boarding costs about $15 to $25 per day. With spaying or neutering, fecal testing, flea treatment, deworming, needed vaccinations, and microchipping, preparing a dog or cat for its forever home can quickly exceed $400.

OPHS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to protecting homeless, helpless, and suffering animals in Clallam County. It is almost exclusively dependent on donor contributions to fund animal care and day-to-day operations.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will support the care of the dogs and cats (and puppies and kittens) entrusted to OPHS and efforts to place them in loving homes.

The silent auction runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., and the concert will start at 7:30 pm. Purchase of a concert ticket is not necessary to participate in the silent auction; community members can even submit bids online. Preregistration for the silent auction is encouraged.
