CLALLAM COUNTY SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FOR VARIOUS BOARDS AND COMMITTEES

The Board of Clallam County Commissioners has announced openings on a variety of advisory boards and committees. Community members are encouraged to apply and participate in local government by serving in these volunteer roles. Specific categories for representation are noted where applicable.

Animal Solutions Advisory Committee (22 openings)

The purpose of the Animal Solutions Advisory Committee is to advise the Board of County Commissioners and provide advice and support to the Sheriff’s Office regarding animal control management in Clallam County. The committee also serves as a forum for exchanging information, sharing resources, highlighting emergency concerns, and recommending strategies to support residents and their companion animals.

Open positions include representatives for: City of Forks; City of Forks Alternate; Clallam County Animal Control Officer Alternate; City of Port Angeles Animal Control Officer; City of Port Angeles Animal Control Officer Alternate; Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe and Alternate; Lower Elwha Tribe and Alternate; Makah Tribe and Alternate; Quileute Tribe and Alternate; Veterinarian Alternate; Olympic Peninsula Humane Society Alternate; Friends of Forks Animals and Alternate; Clallam County equine rescue organization and Alternate; Animal rescue organization that accommodates animals other than dogs, cats and horses (Alternate); one At-Large member; and an At-Large Alternate.

Behavioral Health Advisory Board (2 openings)

This board advises the County Commissioners on the implementation and funding of programs supported by the one-tenth of one percent sales tax authorized by RCW 82.14.460. Openings are available for representatives of Tribal and Services for the Homeless.

Board of Health (3 openings)

The Board of Health addresses matters related to protecting and improving public health in Clallam County. Responsibilities include community health assessments, disease prevention, public health regulations, and oversight of health services. Openings include a representative who is a Consumer of Public Health, and representatives from the Makah Tribe and Quileute Tribe.

Boundary Review Board (1 opening)

This autonomous board reviews jurisdictional boundary changes such as annexation proposals when requested by affected jurisdictions. The board operates under RCW 36.93 and evaluates logical boundaries, service transfers, and related matters. The current opening is for a Governor-appointed representative.

Building Code Board of Appeals (7 openings)

This board hears and decides appeals related to decisions made by the Building Official regarding the interpretation and application of building codes adopted by Clallam County. Openings include two Alternate members, as well as representatives who are an Architect; Civil or Structural Engineer; General Contractor; ICC Certified Fire Marshal, Fire Inspector, or Fire Plan Examiner; and ICC Certified Building Official, Building Inspector, or Plans Examiner.

Clallam Bay/Sekiu Community Advisory Committee (4 openings)

This committee assists in gathering information, making recommendations, and supporting orderly growth and development in the Clallam Bay/Sekiu area. Open positions include one representative from Clallam Bay School and three At-Large members.

Clallam Bay/Sekiu Sewer Advisory Committee (1 opening)

This committee gathers information related to sewer operations, rates, and billing procedures in the Clallam Bay/Sekiu area and makes recommendations to the Board of Commissioners. One committee member position is open.

Crescent Community Advisory Council (2 openings)

The council acts as a liaison between residents of the Crescent School District area and the Board of Commissioners on issues including land use, economic development, transportation improvements, and community projects. Openings include representatives from the Grange and the Crescent School District Student Body.

Heritage Advisory Board (2 openings)

This board advises the County Commissioners on matters related to preserving Clallam County’s cultural heritage. Two openings are available for representatives from District II.

Homelessness Task Force (24 openings)

The task force advises the Commissioners on issues related to homelessness in Clallam County. Open positions include representatives and alternates from several organizations and groups including Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, Makah Tribe, Quileute Tribe, healthcare providers, mental health and substance use providers, domestic violence/sexual assault providers, Department of Social and Health Services, West End service providers, Serenity House, Olympic Community Action Programs, the law and justice system, the faith community, business community, individuals who are homeless or formerly homeless, and advocates for youth and veterans.

Housing Solutions Committee (2 openings)

Established in 2022, this committee develops innovative housing solutions in Clallam County and recommends funding allocations for housing programs and infrastructure. Openings are available for representatives of Tribal Governments and the North Olympic Regional Veteran’s Housing Network.

Lake Sutherland Steering Committee (5 openings)

This committee is composed of property owners within the Lake Sutherland Management District who represent various lake-use interests and geographic areas. Five committee member positions are open.

Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (1 opening)

This committee reviews proposed changes to expenditures from the Hotel/Motel Tax Fund and makes recommendations to the Board of Commissioners. One opening is available for a tax collector representative.

Marine Resources Committee (8 openings)

The committee advises the Commissioners on issues related to marine resources in the Strait of Juan de Fuca and nearby bays and estuaries. Openings include representatives from the Makah Tribe and Alternate; At-Large Alternate; Marine Recreation and Tourism Alternate; Conservation/Environmental Alternate; District I Alternate; District III Primary; and Development Community Alternate.

North Pacific Coast Marine Resources Committee (1 opening)

This committee helps understand and restore marine and estuarine ecosystems along the North Pacific coast of Washington in Clallam and Jefferson counties. One opening is available for a Clallam County citizen representing the scientific community.

Peninsula Housing Authority (2 openings)

The Peninsula Housing Authority provides low-income housing services in Clallam and Jefferson counties under contract with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Two committee member openings are available.

Permit Advisory Board (11 openings)

This board makes recommendations regarding building code and permitting changes. Openings include representatives from the following categories: Architect; Building Designer; Certified Septic Designer/Installer; Engineer (structural or civil); Economic Development Council; Environmental Consultant; Homebuilders’ Association; Propane/Woodstove Contractor; Manufactured or Mobile Home Association; Land Surveyor; and an ex officio Planning Manager.

Planning Commission (1 opening)

The Planning Commission assists the Board of Commissioners and the Department of Community Development with land-use policy and comprehensive planning. The current opening is for a representative from District I.

Port Crescent Pioneer Cemetery Board (2 openings)

Established in 1974, this board oversees operations of the Port Crescent Pioneer Cemetery. Two committee member openings are available.

Revenue Advisory Committee (4 openings)

This committee provides guidance on revenue generated from state forest lands managed by the Department of Natural Resources, which help fund local services such as roads, libraries, and fire districts. Openings include representatives from Quillayute Valley Park & Recreation; Clallam Fire District 1 Alternate; Olympic Medical Center #2 Primary; and Olympic Medical Center #2 Alternate.

Sheriff’s Citizens Advisory Committee (6 openings)

This committee provides a communication link between the Sheriff’s Office and the community. Openings include representatives from Diamond Point; Forks and unincorporated areas; Quileute Tribe; Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe; Makah Tribe; and the Law and Justice community.

Solid Waste Advisory Committee (6 openings)

This committee assists with policies and programs related to solid waste handling and disposal in Clallam County. Openings include At-Large and At-Large Alternate members; Solid Waste Industry (West Waste Recycling) and Alternate; City of Forks Alternate; and Business Community Alternate.

Trails Advisory Committee (5 openings)

This committee advises the county on non-motorized transportation and trail-related issues. Openings include representatives from Olympic National Park; a Large Private Forest Company; City of Sequim; a Commercial Trail Business; and Off-Road Motorized User Groups.
