A Look Back …This week in the Forks Forum

This week in 2000 Clallam Bay Postmaster Linda Dillard had presented a check for almost $3,000, from the Walk for Life activity, to cancer research (photo). The Clallam Bay high school choir had returned from a trip to NY city. Sharon Penn was the newest member of the QVSD board. In police calls there was a report of mashed potatoes on a car.

In 1953 a new feature, a Barrel Derby, was being added to the 4th of July events; the American Legion was in charge. A Fiberboard Camp logger, Emil Oling, had been killed by a falling tree. He had been working alone. In police court news Darrell Gaydeski had been speeding and received a ticket for $12.50. In city council news the council had instructed the town marshal to install 2-hour parking signs. The council was also asking for volunteer help in finishing the new city hall. The town still owed the contractor and had no funds to finish a few things.

This week in 1939 it was front page news that 10 people working at the county and a few elsewhere had been arrested in the Clallam County Treasury Looting Case. In marriage announcements Walter Fletcher had wed Helen Shipley. Shipley was a Forks school teacher and Fletcher was employed at the Forks Shingle Mill. Also wed were William Wentworth and Bernadette McCleary. The new Mrs. Wentworth was also a Forks school teacher.
