Go Seahawks …remembering Ruth

It is exciting to think that the Seahawks might be on their way to the Super Bowl! I was reminded on Facebook that one thing is missing ….that would be Ruth! On the post many recalled her after Seahawk game antics, much fun for some and not so much for people who recorded the game and didn’t want to know who won.

Ruth only celebrated when the Seahawks lost.

She would just be hating this if she was still with us! Especially since the last game was with one of her fave teams the 49rs and the Hawks won.

I remember she was pretty miffed one time at a new Forks police officer who stopped her for being noisy and she told him, “I’m Ruth this is what I do!”

I wrote this poem, one year about Ruth’s activities, as my Christmas column.

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the west

The Seahawks were playing, they were playing their best;

The stockings were hung by the big screen with care,

In hopes that Russell Wilson would throw passes with flare;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of them sleeping all night danced in my head;

With mother in her Seahawks jersey and me in my NFL cap,

We settled in to watch the game, the cat in my lap,

When out on the street I heard such a clatter,

I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.

Away to the window, I flew like a flash,

The cat went a-flying, with a mighty crash.

I threw open the door and what did I see?

By golly, by golly … it was Ruthy!

She was riding her ATV dressed in 49ers Gear,

And was that Frankie Vallie, that I hear?

The music was blasting she was singing along,

But the game wasn’t over yet it was too early for a song!

And then in a twinkle I heard something in the air,

It was handfuls of candy she was throwing there!

A wink of her eye and a twist of her head,

Soon led me to know I had nothing to dread;

She spoke not a word, just kept singing away,

And filled all the stockings, it was time for the first play!

She then sprang to her ATV and gave a big whistle,

And off she went like the down of a thistle,

But I heard her exclaim as she drove out of sight,

“I might be back later if the Seahawks lose tonight!”

Ruth passed away in May 2022. Football season is just not the same without her.
