Rixon house visit

Michelle Simpson contributed photo

The West End Historical Society paid a visit to the recently-completed restored historic Rixon home located in Sappho on Tuesday, Feb. 8. John and Michelle Simpson, the owners of the home and surrounding property, chose to rebuild the circa 1913, Connecticut four-square style home following a devastating fire that gutted the structure on March 21, 2009. The home was built by the Clallam Lumber Co., who were agents for lumber cutting and shipments of lumber out of the West End in the 1910s. Teddy Rixon was brought in to manage the operation and moved his family into the home. Master carpenters Ben Simmons and Curtis Hansen of Port Angeles did much of the carpentry work during the restoration. Here the historical society members are pictured in the dining room of the home. The couple’s Cabins at Beaver Creek vacation rentals are locate on the property, go to www.thecabinsatbeavercreek.com for a more thorough look at the historic property.
